Cristiano Ronaldo's record vs. Liverpool

Sports Mole looks at Cristiano Ronaldo's record against Liverpool ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with the Reds.

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to lead the Manchester United line when the Red Devils welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are currently sixth in the table, five points behind leaders Chelsea, and the 20-time English champions have picked up just one point from their last three league outings.

Ronaldo was again the hero on Wednesday night, though, as the Portugal international came up with a late winner in a 3-2 home success over Atalanta BC in the Champions League.

The 36-year-old has now found the back of the net on six occasions in eight appearances for Man United since returning to the club from Juventus in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, and he will be hoping to inspire his side to a victory over Jurgen Klopp's team this weekend.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Ronaldo has fared against Liverpool in the past.

Ronaldo has faced Liverpool on 12 occasions during his professional career and has a strong record against the Reds, having won eight times, drawn once and lost three.

All three of the Portuguese's previous Champions League outings against the Reds came during his time at Real Madrid, and he was on the winning side on each occasion; Ronaldo scored against the Merseyside outfit in the group stage of the 2014-15 competition before helping Los Blancos win the 2018 final.

In the Premier League, Ronaldo has tackled Liverpool eight times and has a record of five wins, one draw and two defeats, scoring twice and registering two assists.

The experienced forward also has one FA Cup appearance against the Reds to his name, suffering a 1-0 defeat to the Merseyside club when they locked horns in the fifth round of the 2005-06 competition.

Overall, Ronaldo has scored three times and registered two assists in his 12 previous outings against Liverpool, including a goal on his final appearance against them during the 2008-09 Premier League season.

The attacker actually failed to register a goal in his first six league outings with the Reds before finding the back of the net in a 3-0 Man United win at Old Trafford during the 2007-08 campaign.

Ronaldo, as mentioned, also scored against the Reds in his last appearance against them, but the match ended in disappointment for the Red Devils, as Liverpool recorded a 4-1 win.

The Portuguese found it tough to individually impress against Liverpool during his first spell at Man United, but his overall record against the Merseyside club is extremely strong, so he should enter Sunday's clash in Manchester full of confidence. body check tags ::
