Man United boss Ruben Amorim makes Christian Eriksen admission after Spurs defeat

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim reveals that he was not prepared to take any risks on Christian Eriksen's fitness against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that he erred on the side of caution with Christian Eriksen's heart condition when selecting his squad for the Tottenham Hotspur fixture.

The Red Devils were depleted for their trip to North London, Victor Lindelof the only senior outfield player named on the substitutes' bench due to an array of injuries and illness.

Having missed chances at either end of the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, United succumbed to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a James Maddison goal.

As a result, United now sit in 15th position in the Premier League table, 10 points adrift of eighth position which may see them earn European qualification.

When commenting on the situation after the game, Amorim suggested that Eriksen's heart condition came into consideration when naming his squad.

What did Amorim say on Eriksen?

While representing Denmark at Euro 2020, a tournament held in 2021, Eriksen suffered a heart attack on the pitch, leading to a period out of the game and a Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) being fitted.

Although that has allowed the 33-year-old to prolong his career, Amorim said that the club needed to be "really careful" with selecting Eriksen when he has a fever or was feeling ill.

Speaking after the match, as quoted by The Sun, the Portuguese said: "I think Leny (Yoro) and Chris, they were sick. So they will recover.

"Of course Chris has the heart situation and we have to be really careful with that.

"It's nothing about the heart! I'm just saying the heart rate has to be controlled because he has a fever."

Eriksen on the brink of United exit

Eriksen has made a total of 14 starts and seven substitute appearances for United this season, contributing four goals and four assists in all competitions.

Nevertheless, it is widely expected that the playmaker will be departing United when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Ninety minutes in a Premier League contest was lasted completed in December, with Eriksen being used far more frequently in the cup competitions than in the top flight. body check tags ::
