Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed that Christian Eriksen is set to return to first-team training with the Red Devils next week.

The Denmark international has not featured for the 20-time English champions since picking up an ankle injury against Championship side Reading at the end of January.

However, the 31-year-old is now back in individual training, and Ten Hag has said that the midfielder is expected to return to full training alongside his teammates next week.

"Christian Eriksen is back on the pitch, not yet in the team training but I expect him in the coming week, [or] weeks, back in team training so will be available for games again," Ten Hag told MUTV.

"So we know how big an impact Christian Eriksen had on our game."

Speaking last month, Man United's head coach said that Eriksen was on course to return in April.

"Yes, some point in April, he will be back. He is doing really well, really good in his rehab. The progress is very good and we have to see how that develops in the coming weeks," the Dutchman told MUTV.

The Dane will again be absent for Man United's Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, and he is also almost certain to miss out against Brentford on Wednesday night.

However, a full week of training could put him in contention to be involved in the clash with Everton at Old Trafford next weekend.

The Red Devils have three league games before welcoming Sevilla to Old Trafford for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final on April 13.

Eriksen arrived at Man United on a free transfer last summer after running down his contract at Brentford.

The experienced midfielder had been a vital player for the Red Devils before his injury, making 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and providing nine assists.

Eriksen has one goal and seven assists in 19 Premier League appearances this season, while he has provided two assists in six outings in the Europa League.

Casemiro has three more matches to serve on his domestic suspension, but Marcel Sabitzer is set to be fit for the clash with Newcastle after a scare on international duty.

Fellow midfielder Scott McTominay will also be full of confidence ahead of the game at St James' Park, having scored four times in two matches for Scotland during the international break. body check tags ::
