Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has admitted that he has been left "devastated" after a fresh injury setback.

Shaw has spent the majority of 2024 on the sidelines, having been restricted to 11 appearances for club and country in the calendar year.

After picking up an injury in February, Shaw worked hard to build up enough fitness to feature in three matches for England at Euro 2024.

However, the left-back was forced to miss the opening few months of the 2024-25 season, before he returned to action in Ruben Amorim's first Premier League game against Ipswich Town on November 24.

Shaw came off the bench against the Tractor Boys to make his first Man United appearance since featuring in a 2-1 win over Luton Town in February.

Shaw confirms fresh injury setback

The 29-year-old went on to make two more substitute appearances in wins against Bodo/Glimt and Everton in the Europa League and Premier League respectively.

However, Shaw has now taken to social media to reveal that he is set for another spell on the sidelines after suffering a fresh injury setback.

In a message uploaded to his Instagram story, Shaw wrote: "It is hurting a lot having to write this as I really thought I had got through my recent struggles and was on a positive path going forward, but unfortunately I've had a small setback.

"I've been through a lot and had a lot of ups and downs, but this has been my toughest period. I'm absolutely devastated and it's extremely tough to come to terms with reality at this time.

"I understand there's going to be people frustrated, angry, disappointed and I understand all that. There is no-one feeling that more than me at this moment in time."

How long will Shaw be out for?

According to BBC Sport, club sources have confirmed that Shaw has picked up a new injury, rather than a recurrence of a previous issue.

The England international will be absent for Wednesday's Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Shaw is also set to miss several other matches, with his latest injury set to keep him out of action for a few weeks.

The left-back is joined on the sidelines by Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans, while Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo will miss the meeting with Arsenal through suspension. body check tags ::
