Mason Mount and Raphael Varane are in contention to make their returns for Manchester United in Saturday's Premier League clash with Burnley at Turf Moor.

The duo both trained alongside their teammates on Tuesday but were not included in the squad for Wednesday's Champions League group-stage fixture against Bayern Munich.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has taken no chances with either player despite the importance of the contest in Germany, but Mount and Varane are likely to be in the manager's thinking when it comes to this weekend's league contest with Burnley.

The 20-time English champions have lost three of their opening five matches of the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, including a 3-1 reverse to Brighton & Hove Albion last time out.

Mount has been sidelined with a hamstring problem that he suffered against Tottenham Hotspur on August 19, but the attacker was in full training on Tuesday.

Varane, meanwhile, had to be substituted against Nottingham Forest in Man United's third match of the new Premier League season after picking up a muscular issue.

The former France international is ahead of schedule when it comes to his recovery, and his return has come at the perfect time following the news that the team are two more defenders down, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire both suffering recent issues.

Man United also revealed on Tuesday that both Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo were able to train individually at Carrington.

Amrabat is yet to make his debut for the Red Devils, with the on-loan Fiorentina midfielder being forced to withdraw from the Morocco squad during the international break due to injury.

The 27-year-old has not actually played at all this season, as he was left out in the early weeks by Fiorentina due to the speculation surrounding his future.

Mainoo, meanwhile, has not played this term due to an ankle injury that he suffered during pre-season.

The 18-year-old has been tipped to play an important role for the Red Devils this term, though, and he is seemingly also not far away from being available for selection.

"Midfielders Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo trained separately away from the main group at Carrington on Tuesday," read a statement on Man United's official website.

"Hopefully both are now on track to step up their return to full fitness in order to provide more options in the engine room for manager Ten Hag."

Man United's absentee list remains lengthy, though, with Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Amad Diallo, Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho and Antony all unavailable for selection. body check tags ::
