Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Timothy Fosu-Mensah was left out of his squad for this afternoon's match against Galatasaray due to concerns over his fitness.
Fosu-Mensah was one of a number of notable absentees from the 23-man squad taken to Sweden for the pre-season friendly, just a day after it was reported that the youngster was one of nine players set to leave the club this summer.
However, Mourinho insists that the 18-year-old was left out for precautionary reasons and to allow him to return to full fitness.
"Fosu-Mensah is not so much injured. But he has this little thing that we want to be careful with given that he is young. He is separate from the group until he is 100% back," he told MUTV.
"Chris Smalling has had a recurrence of an old injury from the previous season. We shall see what happens, but already he is suspended for the first game against Bournemouth."
Summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to make his United debut during this afternoon's match in Gothenburg.
