Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that Nemanja Matic will miss the start of the Premier League season.
The Serbia midfielder has played no part in the Red Devils' International Champions Cup campaign in the United States since returning from World Cup duty.
Speaking to reporters after Man United's 4-1 defeat by Liverpool in Michigan on Saturday, Mourinho confirmed that Matic will be recovering from surgery.
"Matic came from the World Cup with an injury and the time he had to rest on holiday was not enough to resolve the problem," the Portuguese is quoted by BBC Sport as saying.
"He went to Philadelphia for a top specialist and he didn't leave the clinic. He immediately had surgery."
United begin their Premier League campaign at Old Trafford against former champions Leicester City on Friday, August 10.
