Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has said that Edinson Cavani is due to return to first-team training with the club on Friday.
The experienced striker has not featured for the Red Devils since the middle of March due to a calf problem that he suffered while on international duty with Uruguay.
Cavani has been absent from Man United's last five Premier League matches, and there had been claims that he would not be seen in the club's shirt once again, as his contract is due to expire at the end of June.
However, Rangnick has said that the 35-year-old is due back in training on Friday, meaning that he could potentially feature before the end of the 2021-22 campaign.
"Well, he should be back in training on Friday, so the day after the Chelsea game, according to the team doctor, and then we will have to see," Rangnick told reporters. "He has been out for quite some time now but according to our team doctor he should be back in training on Friday."
Cavani impressed during his first season at Old Trafford has struggled with a number of fitness problems this term, managing just two goals and one assist in 17 appearances in all competitions.
The 20-time English champions will take on Chelsea (H), Brentford (H), Brighton & Hove Albion (A) and Crystal Palace (A) in their final four league matches of the season. body check tags ::
