Sao Paulo police have concluded their investigation into allegations of domestic abuse regarding Manchester United and Brazil forward Antony, and no charges will be brought against the 24-year-old.
Antony's former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin has accused the forward of assaulting her on multiple occasions throughout their relationship.
The Sao Paulo Civil Police and Greater Manchester Police have been conducting their own investigations, with the alleged incidents said to have occurred in both Brazil and Manchester.
While Greater Manchester Police are still conducting their investigation, it has been confirmed that Antony will not be facing any charges in Brazil due to insufficient evidence.
According to Globo, 19 witnesses gave statements to Brazilian police, but Antony has always denied any form of physical violence towards his former partner.
Antony will not face charges in Brazil
The Public Security Secretariat told Brazilian media: "The case was processed under confidentiality. More information should be requested from the courts."
Meanwhile, a press release from Antony's legal team said: "The defence of the player Antony Matheus Dos Santos, in view of the news published by the press this Tuesday, publicly confirms that the police investigation opened at the 5th Women's Defence Precinct of Sao Paulo, of the Civil Police, was closed without indictment.
"The defence has always believed that the investigations, which are being conducted under secrecy, would prove Antony's innocence."
Antony claimed last year that Cavallin had doctored WhatsApp messages, while he denied his former girlfriend's most serious claim, which involved an alleged incident in a Manchester hotel.
Antony has struggled during his time at Man United
Earlier this year, Man United boss Erik ten Hag admitted that off-the-field problems had harmed Antony last season, with the Brazilian given a leave of absence in the early stages of the 2023-24 campaign after the allegations of abuse were made.
"I can explain. I think it's very simple: his off-field issues stop him playing," Ten Hag told reporters at the time.
Antony has only managed 11 goals and five assists in 82 appearances for Man United in all competitions, and there has been speculation surrounding his future this summer.
However, the 24-year-old is expected to stay at Old Trafford due to a lack of genuine interest, and he will be bidding to improve on last season's numbers, when he managed just one goal and one assist in 29 Premier League appearances.
Antony has been an unused substitute in Man United's first two matches of the 2024-25 campaign against Manchester City and Fulham in the Community Shield and Premier League respectively. body check tags ::
