Mark Clattenburg has been named as the fourth official for the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The 37-year-old referee has recently been cleared of using "inappropriate language" towards Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel in a Premier League meeting with Manchester United in October.
He returned to refereeing duties for the Southampton versus Norwich City match on Wednesday and also took charge of the weekend match between Arsenal and Swansea.
However, he has now been selected as part of the team to officiate arguably the biggest match in the Premier League thus far this season.
Martin Atkinson will referee the clash between Manchester City and Manchester United.
