Antonio Conte was reportedly keen on taking the Manchester United job before being named Tottenham Hotspur's new manager.

The Italian was announced as Nuno Espirito Santo's successor at Spurs on Tuesday and won his first game in charge over Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday.

There had previously been speculation linking Conte with a move to Old Trafford when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's position came under pressure following a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Conte waited "until the last moment" to see if Man United would sack Solskjaer before he took the job at Tottenham.

The report adds that the former Chelsea boss felt that the Red Devils "have a better squad and more decisive players" but that the club "never publicly had little faith in Solskjaer".

Conte takes charge of his first league game as Spurs manager when they travel to Everton on Sunday afternoon. body check tags ::
