Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has admitted that he is "embarrassed" by his club's struggles during the 2021-22 campaign.
The Red Devils will again end the season trophyless and are also set to miss out on a top-four spot in the Premier League due to their recent struggles.
The 20-time English champions are sixth in the table, six points fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand, ahead of Thursday's clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
De Gea has said that he 'feels horrible on the pitch' at the moment, with Man United losing five of their last eight games in all competitions during a poor run.
"It's tough. For me, it's very tough," De Gea told Sky Sports News. "I've been here for many years, I've been there on the pitch and being 3-0 down or 4-0 down, it's too painful. For me, I feel embarrassed sometimes, I feel... it's difficult to say, but I feel horrible on the pitch.
"So this is why we have to change this mindset and everything and, come on, everyone do more and try to win games and be there in the top positions."
De Gea recently said that he was "very excited" to play under Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman set to become the club's new head coach at the end of the campaign. body check tags ::
