David de Gea has revealed that he wants to emulate his hero Peter Schmeichel and become a Manchester United legend.
The 21-year-old signed for United from Atletico Madrid last summer for £18.3m.
"Peter Schmeichel was legendary and a role model for any keeper," he said.
"I have every intention of spending many years at Manchester United.
"I want to go on to become a great United keeper and to earn and deserve respect. I want to help United make history."
De Gea was hailed for saving a last-minute Juan Mata free kick during United's 3-3 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
