Manchester United legend Tommy Docherty has warned manager Louis van Gaal that he risks alienating the supporters with his current brand of football.
The Red Devils are currently third in the Premier League, but have come under fire in certain sections for their approach.
Docherty has claimed that Van Gaal could see the club's fans turn against him if his side continue to turn in their current standard of performances.
He told The Mirror: "[Van Gaal] has got to start producing very, very quickly at United. The supporters will expect them to be doing better than they are at the moment.
"Once the crowd start to get on you if you don't give them what they want – and they're the ones who pay your salary – they'll start showing disillusionment with the way the team is playing.
"If United get beaten by Preston [in the FA Cup], their season's almost over. Then all they'd have to go for is the top four – and they've got to get into that."
United travel to Preston North End in the fifth round of the Cup on Monday evening.
