Sam Allardyce reveals that he will announce his England captain tomorrow ahead of Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

England manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he will confirm his captain in an announcement on Tuesday.

Wayne Rooney currently has the skipper's armband, but shortly after Allardyce was appointed as Roy Hodgson's successor last month, the former Sunderland boss refused to comment on whether the Manchester United star would retain the captaincy.

Allardyce named his first squad as England boss last night, and included in it is West Ham United's Michail Antonio, who has never been capped at senior level.

Ross Barkley was a notable absentee following his positive start to the season, but Allardyce has since claimed that the "door will always be open" for the Everton midfielder.

In the squad announcement, Rooney was listed as a midfielder rather than a forward, which indicates that the 30-year-old will play in the number 10 role.

However, Allardyce has insisted that he has not yet decided where Rooney's permanent place will be.

This morning in a press conference, the Three Lions boss told reporters: "[Listing Rooney as a midfielder is] not a reflection of where I'm likely to play him. Shall we say attacking midfielder? Or striker?

"I think Rooney's position has changed at Manchester United and that's where I'll be looking to play him. I may consider changing the format of the squad announcement next time so it says no position!"

England will face Slovakia in their opening 2018 World Cup qualifier on Sunday.
