Jonny Evans: 'Fernando Torres red card was right'

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans believes that Fernando Torres was right to have been sent off for diving during Sunday's 3-2 win at Chelsea.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has claimed that Fernando Torres was rightfully sent off for diving during Sunday's 3-2 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard received a second yellow card from referee Mark Clattenburg when he went down under Evans's challenge in the second half.

Replays showed that there was minimal contact between the pair, but Evans is convinced that the striker's dramatic fall warranted a booking.

"At the time I didn't feel like I'd made contact. I've seen it again and there was contact, but not enough to bring him down," the centre-back told Sky Sports News. "I think the referee has made the right decision to send him off."

Chelsea had earlier been reduced to 10 men when Branislav Ivanovic had brought down Ashley Young with the United winger through on goal.
