Rio Ferdinand critical of Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof

Former defender Rio Ferdinand claims that Victor Lindelof is 'the main culrpit' for Manchester United's recent struggles in defence.

Former defender Rio Ferdinand has described Victor Lindelof as "the main culprit" for Manchester United's recent struggles in defence.

While the North-West giants have only conceded four goals in as many games this season, United have only kept one clean sheet in their last 19 outings.

Harry Maguire has impressed since his arrival from Leicester City earlier this summer, but Ferdinand feels that Lindelof was at fault for Southampton's equaliser in the 1-1 draw at St Mary's on Saturday afternoon.

The Englishman told BT Sport: "If you look at the two centre halves for the goal, they know where the danger is, they're both pointing.

"They should shuffle against the danger man. They're both passing the buck there. A Sol Campbell or Martin Keown would be looking for the danger man and taking responsibility.

"Lindelof is the main culprit here. It's a case of personal pride. They both have to say 'have I done enough there?' If Lindelof gets tight earlier on, [Jannik] Vestergaard can't get a run on him."

While he endured a slow start to his United career, Lindelof has gone on to make 73 outings in all competitions since June 2017.
