Ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has said that Louis van Gaal's "unwavering belief in his methods" is one of the main reasons as to why the club have supposedly decided to disperse of his services.
It is expected that the Dutchman will be sacked in the next 24 hours and replaced by Jose Mourinho, despite having guided the club to a first FA Cup triumph since 2004 at the weekend.
It was United's inconsistent form in the Premier League that saw the pressure on Van Gaal intensify, with fourth and fifth-placed finishes to show from his two seasons in charge.
Writing on his official Facebook page, Ferdinand claimed that stubbornness ultimately cost Van Gaal, although he did praise the 64-year-old for giving a number of youngsters a chance to shine.
