Sir Alex Ferguson reveals that he would happily continue at Manchester United in a different role when he finally steps down as manager.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he would happily continue in a different role at Manchester United when he finally steps down as manager.

The 70-year-old has been at the helm at Old Trafford for over a quarter of a century and admitted that he may leave the post in the next "two or three years".

However, the Glaswegian also spoke of continuing at the Premier League champions in a different role.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live, Ferguson said: "If my health holds up, I'm sure another two or three years won't harm me.

"If I get to a stage when I'm not enjoying it then that will be it. I'm sure there will be another role for me at United when I retire."

During his time at the club Ferguson has won 12 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions Leagues.

In the same interview he also revealed that someone of fellow Glaswegian David Moyes's character would be the right successor to him.

"What David Moyes is doing at Everton is miraculous," Ferguson added. "I think the next Manchester United manager has to be someone with experience."

Fergie's side are currently two points adrift of neighbours Manchester City in the Premier League.
