Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has described being handed the vice captaincy at Old Trafford as a "very proud moment".
It was announced on Tuesday evening that Fletcher had been handed the role as deputy to Wayne Rooney, and the Scottish international admits that it is a huge moment in his career.
The 30-year-old told the club's official website: "I am delighted to have been named as vice captain. It's a very proud moment for me and my family.
"Wayne and I have always worked well together and we will continue to work closely together in our new roles. I would like to thank the manager for putting his trust in me."
Fletcher has spent his entire career at Manchester United, scoring 24 goals in 330 appearances.
