Dermot Gallagher: 'Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba deserved red card'

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher says that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba deserved to be sent off against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has said that he has 'no doubts' that Paul Pogba deserved to be handed a red card against Arsenal on Saturday night.

During the closing stages of the game at the Emirates Stadium, Pogba was given a straight red after a foul on Hector Bellerin, although United boss Jose Mourinho initially suggested that he may appeal the decision.

However, with United eventually opting to accept the call, Gallagher has claimed that the referee had made a "tremendous spot" to dismiss the Frenchman in a game which United eventually won by a 3-1 scoreline.

Gallagher told Sky Sports News: "I think it's a red card. It's a tremendous spot by the referee. I didn't expect a red card until I saw the replay. It's serious foul play.

"Where he went was dangerous with excessive force, without doubt it's a red card. The referee did great. Since I've seen the replay I've not seen any detractors. People have said 'definite red card'."

Pogba will now miss Premier League games against Manchester City, Bournemouth and West Bromwich Albion.
