Steven Gerrard: 'I'd be half Sir Alex Ferguson, half Arsene Wenger as manager'

Outgoing Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says that he would pitch himself as halfway between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger if he moves into management.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has revealed that he would take influence from both Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger if he moves into management.

The midfielder played his final game at Anfield for the Reds on Saturday, prior to his move to Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, as his side were beaten 3-1 by Crystal Palace.

Gerrard has made no secret of his interest in one day taking charge of his boyhood club, but the 34-year-old insists that he would only do so if he can make use of everything that he has learned, particularly from former Manchester United boss Ferguson and current Arsenal manager Wenger.

"I must be a bit bonkers to want to be a manager but I certainly want to keep the connection with the club and leave everything open for the future," Goal.com quotes Gerrard as saying. "I wouldn't mind being either Fergie or Wenger because both have been very successful managers. I think I'll be somewhere in the middle.

"What I have tried to do with managers I have worked with down the years is to write notes on them all. I've kept an eye on the sessions the players have liked and always tried to remember the one-liners or bits of advice, whether good or bad.

"It's not a big suitcase full of notebooks but there's some important stuff that might help me in the future."

Gerrard's final game for Liverpool is at Stoke City next weekend.
