Gordon Hill: 'Manchester United could still struggle without David Moyes'

Former Manchester United player Gordon Hill believes that Manchester United could still struggle following the sacking of manager David Moyes.

Former Manchester United winger Gordon Hill has warned that a change of manager might not improve the club's fortunes.

David Moyes has been sacked as United boss just 10 months into his reign, with the club languishing in seventh place in the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that the new man in charge will be given £200m in transfer funds for the summer window, but Hill believes that the club will struggle to attract players.

"The club is in a deep hole here because, number one, they need to spend money. Number two, they need to find somebody who is going to guide them and, number three, they have to go into the transfer market and hope what they get to spend is going to be suitable enough," he told talkSPORT.

"David came in and had everything at his disposal but unfortunately didn't use what he had and now it is a bigger menu list for the new man that is coming in. The task ahead is a massive task. We know the players that are going to leave, the players that are unhappy. What are you going to buy?

"If Man United are the top club in the world, they are going to have to go for the top players. You are looking at £200m but what is out there? [Especially] now they are not in Europe."

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to replace Moyes.
