Thomas Hitzlsperger has claimed that Louis van Gaal is yet to work out his best team at Manchester United.
Van Gaal spent around £150m in the summer and broke the British transfer record to land Angel di Maria from Real Madrid for around £60m.
However, former Aston Villa midfielder Hitzlsperger believes that the Dutchman is still trying to find the right combination at Old Trafford.
The ex-Germany international told Sky Sports News: "Van Gaal has done really well at Bayern Munich and he did a lot of good work there, but he's had a lot of money to spend [at United] and the players aren't quite doing it yet.
"He hasn't found the right formation yet, he doesn't know where to play the players and where their best positions are but he has proven he is a really good manager.
"He needs time but I think that they will finish in the top four."
United are currently fourth in the Premier League.
