England manager Roy Hodgson has offered his congratulations to Louis van Gaal on being appointed the new Manchester United boss.
Van Gaal, who is currently in charge of the Netherlands national team, will arrive at Old Trafford on a three-year deal following this summer's World Cup.
"I know Louis. I have always got on very well with him. I am pleased for him," Hodgson told reporters from England's pre-World Cup training camp in Portugal.
"He has been asked to take on a big job and my congratulations to him but when it comes to all of these appointments with club teams I don't think it is for national team managers to speak about it."
England will start their preparations for the World Cup with a friendly against Peru at Wembley Stadium on May 30.
