Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard has said that he realised that it was time to retire from international football when Luke Shaw admitted that he didn't know who Tony Adams is.
Lampard quizzed the Manchester United youngster during the World Cup, but 19-year-old Shaw was unaware of the former Arsenal and England skipper.
"I was having a chat with Luke Shaw and I mentioned Tony Adams and he didn't seem to know who I was talking about," Lampard told The Sun.
"I said: 'Are you winding me up?' And he said: 'Who did he play for?'
"I knew then then it was time to retire."
Adams made 66 appearances for England and captained Arsenal for 14 years.
