Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku claims he was scapegoated during his time at Manchester United, along with Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba.

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has claimed that he and two other teammates were scapegoated at Manchester United.

The Belgian centre-forward believes that he, alongside Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez, were made to take the fall for the team's shortcomings last season as the Red Devils finished disappointingly in sixth.

Lukaku was often criticised during his two-year spell at Old Trafford, despite scoring 42 goals from 96 appearances across all competitions, and, according to The Mirror, feels the negative perception of him and his two teammates was unfair.

"They have to find somebody. It is Pogba, it is me or it is Alexis. It's the three of us all the time. For me, I just see it in many ways," he told the LightHarted Podcast.

"I think a lot of stuff has been said, where I didn't feel protected. A lot of rumours, 'Rom is going to go there, they don't want Rom' and nobody came out and shot it down. A lot of people don't think I should be part of that system. That's my feeling from the conversations that I have, I just know.

"For me, the thing that makes me laugh a lot is, how the hell is s*** going bad in my team, but when I play in my national team, it's good? And I'm happy."

Lukaku joined Inter in a reported £75m deal earlier this summer and could be followed shortly by Sanchez.
