Manchester United are reportedly close to reaching the end of their internal investigation into Mason Greenwood's conduct, with a final decision on his future potentially arriving by next month.

Greenwood is technically free to resume his football career, having been cleared of all the serious charges that were facing him following allegations from a woman.

The charges, including rape, assault, sexual assault, and threats to kill, have been dropped, but the 21-year-old has still not been allowed to return to Old Trafford, with the Red Devils conducting an internal investigation before deciding what route to take when it comes to the forward.

There are a number of options available to Man United, including selling him, loaning him or releasing him, while the club could also potentially reintroduce him into the squad for next season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the 20-time English champions are close to reaching the end of their investigation, with a final decision expected 'in the next few weeks'.

The report claims that the current owners, the Glazers, will have a huge say in the final outcome despite the Americans being in talks over a sale of the club.

While the investigation has not been finalised, the process has allegedly 'moved forward', although there is currently no indication what route the club are considering taking.

Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag recently suggested that Greenwood could have a future at Old Trafford.

"[He] showed in the past that he is capable of doing that (scoring goals)," Ten Hag told The Times when asked about bringing in another striker this summer to support Marcus Rashford.

There is allegedly not a shortage of interest in Greenwood, with a number of clubs said to be willing to offer him the opportunity to continue his career abroad.

There is thought to be huge interest from Turkey, while Juventus, AC Milan and Roma are among the Italian teams to be linked with him over the last few weeks.

Greenwood has represented Man United on 129 occasions in all competitions, scoring 35 goals and registering 12 assists in the process, including 22 goals and four assists in 83 Premier League matches.

The forward, who has also been capped on one occasion by England, scored 17 times during a breakthrough 2019-20 campaign at Old Trafford.

Greenwood has another two years left to run on his contract in Manchester, while the club have the option to extend the agreement for a further 12 months. body check tags ::
