Memphis Depay admits Premier League struggles

Manchester United attacker Memphis Depay vows to make his mark at Old Trafford after struggling during his first 12 months in England.

Memphis Depay has admitted that he struggled to perform during his first season with Manchester United.

The 22-year-old moved to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven last summer, with the Red Devils believed to have paid just over £25m to sign the Netherlands international.

Memphis struggled in the Premier League, however, and was also left out of the FA Cup final squad.

The Dutchman has conceded that he failed to establish himself at United during the 2015-16 season, but has vowed to make his mark ahead of the new campaign.

"It's not been a bad year, but it's not been a good year," Depay told Unscriptd. "It's been right there in the middle. I have more expectations from myself and the fans as well, that's normal.

"Sometimes I've made a mistake or I haven't played good for a game and you get put on the bench. It's new for me as well. Last season [with PSV] I was playing and I was scoring every game and this season it's 50-50. I have some games on the bench for 90 minutes. That's new and it's hard.

"But I'm still young, 22. If you believe in something that you can achieve, I think you will make it if you put everything into it. That's my motto: dream, believe, achieve. I don't want to give up on anything."

Depay managed seven goals in 45 appearances for Man United last season, but only two of those strikes came in the Premier League.
