Manchester United manager David Moyes has admitted that he was "surprised" to watch Robin van Persie play a full 90 minutes for the Netherlands.
The 30-year-old was a doubt for the clash due to illness, but Louis van Gaal opted to play Van Persie for the entire 2-0 defeat to France in midweek.
"Robin was in his bed all day Tuesday being sick, but he felt better on Wednesday and he played," BBC Sport quotes Moyes as saying. "I was a little bit surprised he played 90 minutes in a game they were losing 2-0, but he did do."
Meanwhile, the Scotsman has insisted that defender Nemanja Vidic will remain as captain following rumours that Wayne Rooney could take over before the end of the season.
