Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has decided to call time on his international career with Serbia.
The 30-year-old, who also skippered his country, made 56 appearances for the national team, scoring two goals.
Vidic has revealed that the recent questions raised over his commitment to the Serbian team led to his decision quit.
"The main reason for this decision is that for a long time, especially in light of recent events, the media and therefore the public, have criticised my attitude towards the national team. Even though I played for the national team injured," read a statement from Vidic.
"Also, I do not want to be a burden for the new generation of players.
"I owe gratitude to the fans, all the selectors and coaches and teammates with whom I worked in the past ten years."
The centre-back made his debut for Serbia in 2002 against Italy.
