Manchester United striker Michael Owen has confirmed that the Red Devils have decided against offering the 32-year-old a new contract at the club.
Reports emerged this morning claiming that the former Real Madrid forward was to be released from the club with the expiration of his contract coming to pass in June.
Owen has revealed that Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson informed him after United's 4-1 testimonial win over the Irish League XI on Tuesday that his services would no longer be needed.
"The manager informed me after our testimonial match on Tuesday that the club would not be offering me a new contract," Owen wrote on Twitter. "I have loved every minute of the 3 years I have spent at such a fantastic club.
"I would like to thank the players, staff and fans for their support and wish them well for the future. I now plan to have a short holiday during which I will contemplate my next move."
Owen only managed to feature four times for the former English champions this season due to a hoard of injuries.
