Pearce: 'Zaha shouldn't be a doubt'

England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce has declared that Wilfried Zaha should be fit and available for selection ahead of tomorrow's European Championship opener against Italy.

Zaha missed training with Pearce's squad yesterday as the Manchester United forward continues to nurse a niggling ankle complaint.

Pearce believes that Zaha is primed to have a huge impact for the Young Lions in Israel, after helping Crystal Palace clinch promotion to the Premiership two weeks ago.

He told BBC Sport: "He shouldn't be a doubt, we'll have another look at him but we shouldn't have a problem.

"He's on top form as you would expect after his contribution to the whole season for Palace and getting a move to Manchester United, and on top of that winning the playoffs.

"He's been outstanding and he's left the club back in the Premier League so he'll be a cult hero with Palace for what he's achieved for them."

The 20-year-old is still rated as doubtful to start the Italy match, but if fit could lead the line alongside Conor Wickham for Pearce's side.
