Phil Jones rues missed opportunity to put pressure on top four

Manchester United defender Phil Jones admits that his side missed an opportunity to put pressure on the top four by failing to beat Hull City at Old Trafford.

Manchester United defender Phil Jones has said that he is "bitterly disappointed" by his side's 0-0 draw with Hull City at Old Trafford yesterday.

United went into the match having seen Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Liverpool all drop points on Tuesday evening, but they failed to capitalise as Hull held firm to come away with a point.

Victory would have seen Jose Mourinho's side close the gap on the top four to two points, and Jones acknowledged that it was a missed opportunity.

"We said before the game that this was our chance to put some pressure on the teams above us," he told MUTV.

"We knew that teams around us would slip up and they have done, but we couldn't capitalise on it. We're bitterly disappointed. The lads are down in the dressing room, as you'd expect."

Jones was forced off after just 55 minutes of the game following a clash with Oumar Niasse, but he played down concerns over his fitness.

"My foot's bruised but I'll be fine. It's nothing sinister, nothing serious, so hopefully in a few days I'll be fine," he added.

United have now won just one of their last five games in all competitions following a nine-match winning streak.
