Marcus Rashford has claimed that Manchester United must always attempt to play with a positive mindset if they are to return to the highest level.

While United put together a prolonged unbeaten streak before the coronavirus pandemic, the North-West giants only sit in fifth position in the Premier League table.

Having contemplated how United could improve in the future, Rashford has identified how Barcelona outclassed United in the Champions League last season as the benchmark.

The England international told BT Sport: "I remember when we was in the Europa League the year that we won it.

"Going into the tournament we felt we had a chance of winning it. I feel like we performed in the manner of a team that was going to win the tournament and when we played against Barcelona over those two legs, I feel that is what they had over us.

"They looked in control of the game and it was something which has always stuck in my mind since that game. Since that game I have always gone onto the pitch trying to show that confidence and belief that my team is going to win."

Barcelona prevailed 4-0 on aggregate over the two legs of the Champions League quarter-final tie.
