Marcus Rashford has said that he 'does not actively think about' captaining Manchester United but is keen to wear the armband for the club at some stage in the future.

Bruno Fernandes was recently appointed Man United's new skipper, replacing Harry Maguire, who had the armband taken away from him due to his struggles during the 2022-23 campaign.

Rashford paid tribute to Zlatan Ibrahimovic when asked about the best personality he had ever come across at the club before discussing potentially becoming Red Devils captain in the future.

"I would say Zlatan [Ibrahimovic is the best personality I've shared a dressing room with], he is always himself," Rashford told The Overlap. "No matter where he goes, how he is with the players is how he is with the fans.

"Or whether he's doing interviews, he's a top guy. I feel like you have to [take responsibility] at a club like Man United.

"Even if you're a young player you have to step up to the occasion and show your skillset and why you play for Man United. It's not easy to play for Man United.

"If you do, you play there for a reason, you're a good footballer. I don't actively think about it (the captaincy) but if the opportunity came, I would step into it."

Rashford made his first appearance of the summer off the bench against Arsenal on Saturday, with the Red Devils recording a 2-0 victory over their Premier League rivals.

A youthful Man United team took on League Two outfit Wrexham in San Diego on Tuesday evening, and it was the Welsh team that recorded a 3-1 win in the friendly.

The senior side will be back in action against Real Madrid on Wednesday night before rounding off their pre-season tour of the United States against Borussia Dortmund on July 30.

Rashford recently signed a new contract at Old Trafford, committing him to the Red Devils until June 2028.

The 25-year-old was in excellent form at club level during the 2022-23 campaign, making 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals and registering 11 assists in the process.

After their pre-season tour, Man United will head back to Europe for their final two pre-season friendlies of the summer against Lens and Athletic Bilbao before beginning their 2023-24 Premier League campaign at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14. body check tags ::
