Rasmus Hojlund has equalled a Premier League scoring record set by Nicolas Anelka after netting in Manchester United's 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Denmark international scored his first Premier League goal at the 15th time of asking when the Red Devils beat Villa 3-2 at Old Trafford in December, and it did not take long for the striker to once again net against the West Midlands side in the reverse fixture.

Indeed, Hojlund opened the scoring in the 17th minute at Villa Park when he met a towering Harry Maguire header to cushion a volley under the legs of Emiliano Martinez from close range.

Villa restored parity midway through the second half through Douglas Luiz, but Man United had the last laugh as super-sub Scott McTominay pounced on an inviting cross from Diogo Dalot to power home a close-range header four minutes from time.

Hojlund has now scored 11 goals for Man United in 29 appearances across all competitions since joining the club from Atalanta BC for a reported £72m last summer.

At the age of 21 years and seven days, Hojlund has become the second-youngest player in Premier League history to score in five successive Premier League appearances, only behind Anelka (19 years and 239 days) who also netted five for Arsenal back in November 1998.

Should Hojlund score for Man United in next weekend's Premier League clash at Luton Town, he would become the youngest-ever player to score in six consecutive matches, surpassing Newcastle United's Joe Willock (21 years and 272 days).

Former Man United midfielder Roy Keane has been impressed by Hojlund's recent form in front of goal and his performance against Aston Villa, telling Sky Sports: "What every striker needs is a few goals to get that confidence, that belief, and he has got that over the last four or five games.

"He looks a different player. He looks strong, aggressive, he's taking his chances, he's got the desire to score a goal and if you look at him, he is a big, strong boy.

"I think it was tough when he first came to the club. If you think about it, he arrived on the back of an injury and he came into a United team not playing with any great belief and they weren't creating that many chances for him.

"But he has turned that around in the last few weeks through hard work and a bit of desire.

"His confidence [has improved]; when you put the ball in the back of the net, it just lifts it. If United want to get in the top four or five, then he has to continue scoring goals."

Hojlund's scoring spree has helped Man United pick up 13 points from a possible 15 available and move Erik ten Hag's side up to sixth in the Premier League table, six points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.

The Red Devils will endeavour to maintain their positive form when they take on Luton, Fulham and rivals Manchester City in their next three top-flight fixtures. body check tags ::
