Wayne Rooney aiming to end Premier League goal drought

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is aiming to end his Premier League goal drought against Liverpool having broken England's all-time scoring record.

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has admitted that he needs to replicate his international goalscoring form domestically when he returns to his club.

The 29-year-old made history on Tuesday night by becoming the first Englishman to ever score 50 goals for his country, netting a penalty in the 2-0 victory over Switzerland at Wembley.

However, despite also scoring a hat-trick in the Champions League this season, Rooney is yet to open his Premier League account for the campaign, something he is keen to rectify when his side welcome bitter rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on Saturday.

"To achieve what I have, I would be lying if I said it didn't put a spring in my step and make you want to carry on," Rooney told reporters.

"I am very happy and grateful, but on Wednesday I go back to Manchester, get back into training and start focusing on Liverpool. Hopefully getting two goals in the last two games will mean I continue scoring."

Rooney has not scored in his last 10 Premier League outings, a drought that stretches back to the start of April.
