Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney reveals that the defeat to Arsenal inspired his team to prove a point against Everton.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has praised his side's reaction in their 3-0 win against Everton after losing to Arsenal before the international break.

The 30-year-old broke his own 17-game goalless record away from home by completing the victory, and Rooney believes that the work the team has put in over the past week showed in the result at Goodison Park.

The England captain told reporters: "It was a very good performance, we were disappointed about the Arsenal game, and we know coming here is difficult, but it's a well-deserved victory and we're delighted.

"We've been working on a lot of things and they're paying off for us. The Arsenal game was hopefully a one-off."

Rooney also sent his condolences to Howard Kendall's family after the Everton legend passed away this morning.

The forward added: ""It was very sad news. I spoke to Duncan [Ferguson] this morning about it.

"It's a sad day for Everton. I'm sure everyone at the club feels it, and I'd like to pass on my condolences to Howard's family."

Manchester United rise to second in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Russia to take on CSKA Moscow in midweek.
