Wayne Rooney has been ruled out of Manchester United's Community Shield clash with Wigan Athletic because of a shoulder injury.
The 27-year-old, who is vying for a spot in England's team to face Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday, also missed Rio Ferdinand's testimonial on Friday.
It has been rumoured that his absence is a result of growing doubt about his future at Old Trafford.
The former Everton star continues to be linked with a move away from the club, with Chelsea having had two bids rejected by the Red Devils.
