Wayne Rooney has said that Manchester United deserve their place at the top of the Premier League.

United leapfrogged rivals Manchester City to first place with a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, as City fell 1-0 to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

"This is where we want to be at the finish," the striker said. "I don't think we have had the credit we deserve these past few months.

"Europe has been disappointing but we've played well against the big teams recently.

"We've not always been at our best but we fully deserve to be top."

United next travel to Athletic Bilbao on Thursday for a second-leg Europa League clash.
