Wayne Rooney: Leaving Manchester United "best move" for Danny Welbeck

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that Danny Welbeck's move to Arsenal was the best decision his former teammate could have made to develop his career.

Wayne Rooney has claimed that Danny Welbeck made the right decision to leave Manchester United for pastures new in the summer.

The England international joined Arsenal for a fee of £16m earlier this year to end his 13-year association with the Red Devils.

Welbeck has made a positive start to life at the Emirates Stadium, scoring 10 goals for club and country since making the move.

"Of course, Danny has been here all of his life. He is a Manchester lad so it is weird seeing him [there]," Rooney is quoted as saying by the Daily Star. "But that's football nowadays and players move on.

"I think, for Danny, and for his own personal career, it was probably the best move for him. He's done great and scored a few goals and is playing well. Danny gives you what he always gives you - a good shift. He works hard for the team.

"At times, as I said to him, he works a bit too hard but he's scoring goals and he's doing well."

United travel to face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend, sitting one place and one point below their opponents.
