Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has outlined his desire to maintain the strong level of his performances next season.
The 25-year-old became an integral part of the United defence that improved in the second half of last season under Louis van Gaal, and was rewarded with a new contract towards the end of the campaign.
Smalling is now determined to take his solid form into the new season to ensure that he remains part of the Dutchman's starting lineup.
He told reporters: "I hope my own performances can keep me in the team. I'm glad the games are coming around now.
"Once you've set a new benchmark it's a case of aiming higher and ensuring your standards don't drop."
Smalling joined United in 2010.
