Graham Taylor: 'Sir Alex Ferguson would have been sacked in today's game'

Former England boss Graham Taylor believes that Sir Alex Ferguson would not be Manchester United's manager today if clubs were as quick to dismiss coaches in the 1980s as they are today.

Former England manager Graham Taylor believes that Sir Alex Ferguson's form with Manchester United in the 1980s and 1990s would not have been tolerated in today's game.

The 70-year-old Scotsman has been at the helm of Old Trafford for 25 years but Taylor believes that Ferguson's early days would have pushed him into the managerial merry-go-round in modern football.

Taylor has insisted that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers should be handed the same amount of time that Ferguson has had with the Red Devils in order to instil a new philosophy at Anfield.

"I would say this though, [Ferguson] wouldn't have got the time that he did back in the '80s and '90s in today's game and I just hope Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool is given the time that Sir Alex got then because I think he will change the philosophy at Liverpool," the Belfast Telegraph quotes Taylor as saying.

Rodgers has won just one Premier League game with the Reds since taking over in the summer.
