Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag refused to add any additional detail to the club's statement when asked about the latest developments surrounding Mason Greenwood.

In a statement on Thursday afternoon, Greater Manchester Police revealed that all charges against the 21-year-old forward had been dropped.

Greenwood was arrested last January on suspicion of rape and assault following accusations from a woman, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The Englishman was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a trial date set for November.

However, all charges have now been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

"We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case," said a spokesperson for the CPS.

"We have explained our decision to all parties. We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met."

Man United then released a statement on Thursday evening, with the club preparing to "conduct its own process before determining next steps".

"Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped," read the statement from the club.

"The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete."

Ten Hag was asked about the developments during his press conference to preview Saturday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, but the Dutchman had nothing to add on the situation.

"No. Nothing. I can't add nothing, I refer to the statement of the club," he said on Friday afternoon.

"As I said, in this moment, I can't give comment about the process. I can't say anything about it, I refer to the statement of the club and at this moment I can't add anything."

Greenwood has scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, with his last appearance coming against West Ham United in January 2022.

The forward has been included in Man United's squad list for the remainder of the campaign. body check tags ::
