Former Manchester United stopper Raimond van der Gouw has insisted that David de Gea will go on to become a "fantastic goalkeeper" for the club.
De Gea initially struggled at Old Trafford before enjoying a fine campaign last season, and Van der Gouw believes that the Spanish Under-21 international was crucial to United's Premier League title success.
The 50-year-old told Manchester Evening News: "This was his second season and he's done a fantastic job. If you want to finish champions you need a very good goalkeeper.
"You need a goalkeeper who is in form and that's exactly what he is. I have the feeling he is getting better and better.
"If you look at the long term, I think he is going to be fantastic goalkeeper for United."
The 22-year-old has made 80 appearances for United since his arrival at the club in 2011.
