Louis van Gaal criticises 'out of control' Jose Mourinho

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believes that his sacking could have been handled differently, while also criticising current manager Jose Mourinho.

Louis van Gaal has admitted that he is still upset by the manner of his Manchester United sacking and has taken a swipe at the man who replaced him at Old Trafford.

The experienced Dutch coach failed to see through his three-year deal with the Red Devils, instead being replaced by Jose Mourinho in May 2016.

Van Gaal, who was in attendance at Anfield for United's league clash against rivals Liverpool on Saturday, believes that the situation surrounding his sacking could have been handled differently, while also accusing Mourinho of being 'out of control' too often.

"How I have suspected it, the way his transfer as a manager to Manchester United went was not elegant at all," the Daily Mail quotes him as saying. "That resulted in my sacking.

"In principle, [Mourinho] is not a bad guy. He can be sympathetic and he was this way when he was my assistant in the past. But he lets himself go out of control too often.

"I have great memories and my relationship with all the staff and fans was great during my time at United. Our CEO Ed Woodward promised me six bottles of Ribeiro red wine every time I would beat Liverpool. Well, I won four times, so I had a lot of those bottles."

United played out a goalless draw with Liverpool to find themselves two points adrift of leaders Manchester City after eight games.
