Wout Weghorst has said that his constant presence in Manchester United's starting lineup demonstrates that he has been in good form since arriving at the club in January.

The 30-year-old has been in the starting side in all 18 of his appearances for the Red Devils, but he has only managed to contribute two goals and two assists in the process.

Man United have relied on Marcus Rashford to score the goals this season, with the England international netting 27 times in all competitions, while Bruno Fernandes is second on the list with 10.

Weghorst's lack of goals has seen the Netherlands international face criticism in recent weeks, but he has said that he has the full trust of the club's head coach Erik ten Hag.

"That's a lot of matches and it shows the trust in me. It also shows that I am doing a good job for the team," The Sun quotes Weghorst as saying. "That was the thing I wanted when I came here – to contribute and try and help the club to be successful to win trophies.

"We have one now. We have two more to go with the Europa League and FA Cup, and we want to get as high as possible in the table and definitely top four for the Champions League.

"So it just shows me that I am being part of it. And being part of us being successful and that appreciation, that's a good thing."

As it stands, Weghorst is due to return to parent club Burnley this summer, but there have been claims that Man United could sign him on a permanent basis this summer.

Weghorst's potential arrival would likely see him used as a back-up option to a new striker, with Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane being linked with switches to the club.

Man United have already won the EFL Cup this season, while they are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Weghorst is currently with the Netherlands squad preparing for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualification matches against France and Gibraltar, and Holland boss Ronald Koeman has said that the forward is "a serious option" to lead the line.

"Wout has developed in such a way that he is a serious option," Koeman told Voetbal International.

Weghorst - contracted to Burnley until June 2025 - has scored five times in 19 appearances for his country, including two goals against Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. body check tags ::
