Wout Weghorst is confident that he can score the goals that could convince Manchester United to sign him on a permanent basis during this summer's transfer window.

The 30-year-old recently joined the Red Devils on loan from Burnley, and he is due to spend the remainder of the campaign with Erik ten Hag's side.

Weghorst has benefited from Anthony Martial's injury problems to start against Crystal Palace and Arsenal in the Premier League since his arrival at Old Trafford.

There is no obligation or option in the loan deal for Man United to sign the Netherlands international on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign.

However, Weghorst has said that he is determined to earn a permanent move to Old Trafford.

"In the end, it's very simple. As a striker, you are judged by goals," Weghorst told Algemeen Dagblad. "He [Ten Hag] indicated that attacking reinforcements were desirable.

"Such a type [No.9] was sought to add to the selection and then, it's simple, the best plays.

"I have to force it to make minutes. In my career, I have always done one thing, score goals. We've had two games now. If I start missing big chances, then I have to start worrying, but I'm confident I can do it [score goals] and I'll be fine.

"It's fantastic to be here. The atmosphere, the away fans, the game that waves up and down. I've been here for over a week now. It's going well.

"Of course [I want to stay], but first I have to make sure I can be of value to the team and this club."

Weghorst is yet to find the back of the net for Man United, while he managed just two goals and three assists in 20 appearances for Burnley in the second half of last season.

The Dutchman netted nine goals and four assists in 18 appearances for Besiktas in the first half of this season, though, having moved to the Turkish giants on loan last summer.

Meanwhile, he struck 70 goals and 22 assists in 144 appearances for Wolfsburg ahead of a switch to Burnley.

Weghorst was also a regular goalscorer for Emmen, Heracles and AZ earlier in his career, while he has five goals in 19 appearances for the Netherlands.

Man United will be in the market for at least one new forward this summer, as they bid to bring in a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who had his contract terminated at the end of November. body check tags ::
