Kurt Zouma has revealed that he rejected a number of offers, including one from Manchester United, to join Chelsea during the January transfer window.
The 19-year-old defender, who was loaned back to Saint-Etienne for the remainder of the season after agreeing a move to Stamford Bridge, claims that it was the opportunity to work with Jose Mourinho which was a key factor in his decision.
"I really wanted to go to Chelsea. Did I have other offers? Yes, there were Internazionale, Monaco and Manchester United. All those clubs called," Zouma told reporters.
"Monaco was the first to call, with the sport director. I thought about it, but with Mr Mourinho, that is a strong signal.
"I know it is a risky choice, but I wanted to catch that train. I didn't know if I would get that opportunity again."
Zouma will begin pre-season with Chelsea, but it remains unclear whether he will be sent out on loan again.
